Discuss how you would use each of the types of information we discussed in class today (scholarly books, popular magazines, newspapers, government documents, encyclopedia, and scholarly journal articles) in the research project you are working on in our class.
My group is working on "piracy" issue for our project. Because of the topic we have it would be sort of difficult to use some of the listed resources above. However, I will try my best. Right off the top I would exclude scholarly books, encyclopedia, government documents, and possibly scholarly journal articles. I automatically excluded these resources because they would not have the kind of information I am trying to learn about when it comes to "piracy". On the other hand popular magazines should have some type of articles or selection in them that may talk about pirating. Whether it be from people who got caught doing such crime, or whether it's about people who are getting hurt financially because of pirating. Newspapers are another good source of research for our topic. Newspaper has been out for quite sometime now, so it should be fairly easy to track a newspaper with some information OR article about this crime. I say this because piracy isn't something that has just started. So a lot of people know about it which mean most journalists know about it to. Even though I only gave two resources listed, for my groups sake there is no better resource than the internet. This is a guaranteed way of getting the information we need for our research project.

Why exclude government documents? I mean wouldn't knowing the laws about piracy be useful? Scholarly articles can include statistics about the frequency of piracy. Scholarly articles can tell you about the ways piracy is committed and about what the extent this can affect not only the people who produced the media but the people who purchased it. Like with Limewire, people were getting music for free. The value of music on iTunes suddenly went up from $0.99 to $1.27. You can easily find newspaper articles reviewing that though.

Hey Dajane! I understand why you had to exclude some of those resources. Some are just not cut out for the kind of information you might be seeking, but you might want to double check why you would exclude all of those. Some might actually be useful with that topic. I also had to exclude plenty of the sources for my topic as well, just because there is a limited amount of information for my topic. You might also want to add the internet as a source because absolutely anything can be found on the internet, and piracy is an issue over the internet.
